Discord - similar to Teamspeak

Hey, so...I've been experimenting with Discord over the last month or so. Seems kinda cool. Not sure what you all think if you've tried it or not. If you haven't and aren't familiar with it, it's similar to TS...and so far free. There are some really cool features like being able to drop video or pics right into the interface instead of just a link...file sharing...(honestly haven't figured that one out yet)...some other schtuff...but starting to dig it the more I mess with it.
https://discordapp.com/I started an experimental channel "Gamerz HQ"...for just playing around, but also grabbed "GeezerGaming" (unreserved). Sound quality is excellent and supposedly consumes less bandwidth while gaming. Interested to hear what you guys think if you try it.
Anywah (yeah...I said "wah") that's my tech share for the week.

I have heard about this program but have never tried it before. I want to say Frzzek is the one that told me but not sure....

There's also an addon-app for your mobile phone, another feature I haven't messed with. I'm afraid if put any new app on my vintage iPhone it might 'splode. But looks pretty slick.
Thought I'd throw it out there, might be something to experiment with especially considering it's free.

This might be something we want to really pay attention to Geezers.
With donations performing poorly since THE MOVE, we might have to give this some consideration in the future to reduce costs again.
Hoping that BF1 will bring Geezers, the old ones, back and maybe we can recruit some new members to help with costs. Otherwise, I can't justify a small number of people donating every month and some months, not covering all the costs. You know what that means, I have to cover the shortage or we fold, something I do not want.
Just a heads up for you guys to consider and pass along. Thx for the input on this little program Hazmat.

Good find Hazmat and that sounds like a great idea Fireman; replace TS to reduce costs. (unless NFO will charge to load any comm server application). If NFO does not charge, is there a way we can set up a Discord Server on the GzR box to try out for say a month? If enough folks like it we can axe TS the following month.

I wouldn't pull the plug on TS until we test the new one out.
I use TS to talk in game. Apps, dropping pics, anything else I could pass on. Yeah, neat features but nothing I would probably use. Whichever, I just want to heckle DerFer and listen to Fireman laugh.

We won't toss TS. IF we do, it will only be after thorough testing and voted on by all of Geezerdom.

Discord is a great application for voip, me and my brother use it when we're playing random shit together and don't wanna be bothered. You don't actually have to have a server set up on a box or anything in order to use it, you can just make one through the application and the voice server is set up all by itself. Very customizable in many different ways, I actually have a bot set up in ours that we can request songs from when we're playing. Jump in any time if you guy's wanna check it out, I'm on until early afternoon. Frankie is usually only on when I'm off work, but if you hit him up on steam maybe he'll jump in and let you play some music. XD

Pardon follow up reply here, nose to the wheel at work. No need to setup a box, like omegashrn said, it's actually cloud based if I'm not mistaken. I've already setup the server and getting familiar with all the bells and whistles. Sound quality is crystal clear. Started getting annoyed with some of the chimes when people join the channel or leave, fortunately, you can configure all of that to your personal tastes.
Firebooty, DrFr, Clump and Rodger...(anyone I left out), I'll set you guys up as admin priv...just gotta have you join channel and can get it set. Have emulated a simple version of the channel setup as it is in TS, can tweak/adjust as needed.
